Horizons on the Hudson Honor Society delivers donations to food pantry!
The Horizons on the Hudson chapter of the National Elementary Honor Society delivered a remarkable 742 items to the food pantry at St. George’s Episcopal Church on Grand Street in the City of Newburgh this week. The items were collected from the school’s third grade classes as part of the Honor Society’s Food for All drive. Students at each grade level are encouraged to bring in non-perishable food and personal care items throughout a particular month. The third grade finished its collection at the end of December and the second grade is responsible for donations this month.
The 38 fourth and fifth grade members of the Honor Society are selected based on the four qualities exemplified by the Honor Society, including scholarship, responsibility, service and leadership. In addition to the monthly Food for All drive, students are also overseeing the school’s annual Blood Drive, scheduled for February 21st, and Pennies for Puerto Rico, which is designed to raise funds for a school devastated during the island’s recent disasters.
