GAMS Hosts Culminating 5th Grade SEL Career Exploration Project Exhibition
This spring, Gidney Avenue Memorial School (GAMS) 5th grade scholars were excited to embark on a successful Social Emotional Learning Career Exploration Project to promote a culture of college and career readiness for all students! Through this program: “Your Future Is Bright” students first dreamt, explored their many interests, and through the support of many community members, were inspired by the “Career Exploration Assemblies Series". The series featured community members from different career paths and included local police officers, dentists, postmasters, sports trainers, construction workers, plumbers, the Mayor of Newburgh, Torrance Harvey, and Newburgh Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Jackielyn Manning Campbell amongst others. These special guest speakers helped students develop a greater understanding of the vast array of career opportunities and trades available to them in the world of work.
As an extension of this initiative, GAMS 5th Graders dove into “researching” their careers of interest. As a result, students have a better understanding of what is needed to succeed in their future career paths and were excited to share their work with their peers, family members and community at the culminating exhibition. The “FUTURE IS BRIGHT” for the participating scholars!
