NFA Graduation & End of the Year Information for Seniors

June 2023

Dear Parents and Students,

The Newburgh Free Academy Class of 2023 Graduation Ceremony will be held on Academy Field at 5:30 PM, Thursday, June 22, 2023.  The rain date is Friday, June 23rd at 5:30 PM.  In the event of inclement weather on Friday the ceremony will be held in the NFA Auditorium.  To ensure this graduation ceremony is a momentous occasion, it is important for everyone to adhere to the following procedures:

 

Week of June 6th

Seniors should turn in all text books to classroom teachers.  Library books should be returned to the library. Students please check with the librarian at each campus to see if you have any outstanding book fines.  All charges and fines must be paid in full by June 13th.  Caps and gowns will not be issued until all fines are paid in full.  

 

High School Senior Device Collection

Students should return chromebooks, chargers, hot spots and any other devices that have been signed out when they are no longer being used. Please remind students of the collection dates and times to support the Technology Department. Please see below for the collection schedule for each campus. 

 

NFA Main:

Seniors only return devices to the Eagle’s Nest

• June 5-13 Periods 4-7
• June 15 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
• June 16 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
• June 22 Prior to picking up a cap and gown

 

NFA North:

Seniors only return devices to Mrs. Holmes in the Library 

• June 12 7:30 AM - 9:30 AM 
• June 13  7:30 AM - 9:30 AM & 11:30 AM-12:30 PM  
• June 20 7:30 AM - 9:00 AM (Main Lobby) 

 

NFA West:

Seniors only return devices to the cafeteria

• June 13 7:30 AM - 10:30 AM (Ms. Andrea's Office)
• June 14 7:15 AM - 8:00 AM & 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM 
• June 15 7:15 - 8:00 AM
• June 20 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM 
• June 21 7:15 AM - 8:00 AM 

 

Cap and Gown Distribution

Seniors may pick up their cap and gown on Wednesday, June 21st at the NFA Main Campus Cafe B (Roe Street) as follows: You must have your ID

Students with the last names:

 

• A - F 11:00 AM -12:00 PM

• G - M 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

• N - Z 1:00 PM -2:00 PM

 

 

Cap Decoration 

Graduates will be allowed to decorate their caps for the Class of 2023 NFA Graduation Ceremony.  Please refer to information on the district’s website for guidelines.   If guidelines are not followed, caps may be removed prior to the ceremony and students may graduate without a cap.

 

Senior Picnic

The Senior Picnic will be held from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 21st at NFA Main Campus back plaza.  

 

Graduation Tickets

Graduates will receive four (4) outdoor tickets and two (2) indoor tickets for the ceremony which they will obtain when they pick up their cap and gown. 

• If the ceremony is moved to the NFA Auditorium because of rain, there will be two (2) indoor tickets allowed per graduate.  There will be no additional tickets given.  

Auditorium seating is available for an outside ceremony only. Requests for up to two (2) auditorium tickets are available by written request only (email correspondence will NOT be honored). The ceremony will be televised live in the auditorium. These tickets are only honored for auditorium access. Ticket requests must be submitted in writing to Ms. McKnight at NFA Main Campus, Ms. Alvarez at NFA North Campus or Ms. Esposito at NFA West Campus by Tuesday, June 13th. Please include graduates name, ID number and a home/work/cell number.

 

Handicapped Seating   

• Handicapped seating is on the visitor side of Academy Field.  There are   specific tickets for handicapped seating.  Families who have a disabled or elderly member(s) may request seating in this section.  All family members may sit in this section provided that each member has a handicapped ticket.  

• Handicapped ticket requests must be submitted in writing to Ms. McKnight at NFA Main Campus, Ms. Alvarez at NFA North Campus or Ms. Esposito at NFA West Campus by Tuesday, June 13th. (email correspondence will NOT be honored). Please include the graduate's name, ID number and parent’s home/work/cell phone number. 

 

• All handicapped ticket holders are to enter through the lower South Street Gate adjacent to the visitor’s side bleachers.

• Please note that both home and visitor side bleachers will be used for the ceremony.  Graduates will be seated so that each side will have equal ceremonial views.

 

 

Graduation rehearsal

• Rehearsal will be held on Thursday, June 22nd  promptly at 9:00 AM. (Graduates arrive at 8:30AM)
• (Any student who has not picked up their cap and gown may do so after rehearsal)

 

Graduation Evening   

The Academy Field Gates will open at 4:00 PM for guests. The Ceremony begins at 5:30 PM.  Graduates must report to their assigned room  location by 4:30 PM 

 

Parking:  Parking is available in the following parking lots

• NFA North Lot (access from Gidney Avenue)
• Gidney Avenue Memorial Elementary School- Front and Rear Lots
• Inspire - Access from Fullerton Avenue

 

Reminders

• Since Newburgh Free Academy is located in a residential community, please be cognizant of our neighbors.  If you park on city streets, please do not block driveways and park only in designated areas.

• Handicapped Parking:  Vehicles that display a handicapped tag will be permitted to park in the First Baptist Church Parking Lot (on the corner of South and West Street) across from Academy Field.

• Anyone driving a disabled elderly person(s) may drop them off at the South Street Gate adjacent to Academy Field and then park in recommended parking lots.   
• South Street will be closed between West St. & Fullerton Ave. to vehicular traffic at 2:00 PM.

 

Inclement Weather Scenarios

Thursday, June 22nd ceremony

Rain in the morning/Clearing for the evening: 

• Graduation rehearsal will be held in the NFA Auditorium at 9:00 AM
• Graduation will be held on Academy Field at 5:30 PM.

Rain in the morning/ Rain for the evening:  

• Graduation ceremony will be postponed until Friday
• If it rains, a decision will be made at the latest possible time. Robo calls to all graduates will be made.

 

Friday, June 23rd ceremony

Rain in the morning/ Clearing for the evening: 

• Graduation will be held on Academy Field at 5:30 PM
• If it rains, a decision will be made at the latest possible time. Robo calls to all graduates will be made.

Evening rain: 

• You must present your rain date ticket to enter the auditorium. 

            There is a limit of two tickets only. Additional tickets will not be permitted.

 

Additional Important Information regarding Graduation Day

Live Streaming - All graduation  ceremonies will be live-streamed to the Newburgh Schools YouTube Channel and the NECSD Facebook page.

We are looking forward to a wonderful and momentous graduation on Academy Field.
