2023 21st Century Summer LEGO Academy Showcase
Each summer, the 21st Century Summer LEGO Academy is a favorite amongst scholars and their families. On Thursday, July 27th, the program held a showcase at Gidney Avenue Memorial School (GAMS). Families were invited to witness the fun their children experienced throughout the program all while learning. The scholars created electronic LEGO structures, cranes, and vehicles controlled remotely using coding.
The Summer LEGO Academy also featured a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Program component led by School Counselor, Ms. Lakeya Stukes. Each day, students discussed the importance of managing emotions and developing a SEL toolkit. The children were also encouraged to share positive affirmations with themselves and their peers.
21st Century Grant Facilitator, Susan Torres-Bender, was in attendance speaking to parents and scholars throughout the showcase. Along with her staff, Mrs. Torres-Bender works tirelessly throughout the year to curate programs that will be both fun and educational for scholars throughout the district.
