Welcome letter to students and families | 2023-2024

September 2023

Dear NECSD students and families,

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! I hope you each had a summer recess that allowed you to relax, reflect, and have a little fun. As the new school year begins, I encourage our students and families to take some time together to set some goals for this new school year. To promote success, make sure your goals are smart, attainable, realistic, and have a timeline to mark milestones. Keeping that in mind:

• What do you want to learn? 
• What relationships do you want to build? 
• What milestones do you want to achieve? 
• What experiences do you want to have? 

Our mantra this year is: Every Goldback, every day. Everyone is here to help our scholars succeed!

This year, I would like to continue our strong emphasis on literacy. Our parents and guardians are our children’s first teachers. It is critical that our families take this responsibility seriously. This year, we are re-launching the Newburgh Basics, an initiative that focuses on literacy for our youngest learners. Regardless of age, there are simple tasks that can be completed at home, with minimal resources that will enrich our children’s abilities to learn and provide them with opportunities to succeed. Learning begins right in your home and continues well into our community. Please visit our Grade Level Expectations to collaborate in ensuring our scholars have a strong educational foundation. 

Our families are never alone in educating their children. Our district and our community partners have so much to offer. I cannot encourage you enough to take advantage of all that is available. After school and all weekend long, there are programs held in our school buildings and in our community that add to what our scholars are being taught during the traditional school day. 

I look forward to continuing my connection with our students, educators, families, and community members throughout this school year. Strong relationships are essential for a foundation of respect and collaboration. It is no secret that we face our fair share of challenges in this district and we have a lot of work to do this year, but with strong relationships we will never be alone in facing those challenges. It is only together that we can do great things. I encourage you each to celebrate the strong relationships you have already developed with the educators in your school buildings and throughout our community. I also urge you to reflect on the relationships that you can build or strengthen to set your child and family up for success.

Estimados estudiantes y familias de NECSD,

¡Bienvenidos al año escolar 2023-2024!  Espero que cada uno de ustedes haya tenido un receso de verano que les haya permitido relajarse, reflexionar y divertirse un poco.  Al comenzar el nuevo año escolar, aliento a nuestros estudiantes y familias a que se tomen un tiempo juntos para establecer algunas metas para este nuevo año escolar.  Para promover el éxito, asegúrese de que sus objetivos sean inteligentes, alcanzables, realistas y tengan un cronograma para marcar los hitos.  Teniendo esto en cuenta:

• ¿Qué quieres aprender?
• ¿Qué relaciones quieres construir?
• ¿Qué hitos quieres alcanzar?
• ¿Qué experiencias quieres tener?

Nuestra mantra este año es: Cada Goldback, todos los días.  ¡Todos están aquí para ayudar a nuestros estudiantes a tener éxito!

Este año, me gustaría continuar con nuestro fuerte énfasis en la alfabetización.  Nuestros padres y tutores son los primeros maestros de nuestros hijos.  Es fundamental que nuestras familias tomen en serio esta responsabilidad.  Este año, relanzamos Newburgh Basics, una iniciativa que se centra en la alfabetización de nuestros alumnos más jóvenes.  Independientemente de la edad, existen tareas sencillas que se pueden realizar en casa, con recursos mínimos, que enriquecerán las capacidades de aprendizaje de nuestros hijos y les brindarán oportunidades para triunfar.  El aprendizaje comienza directamente en su hogar y continúa en nuestra comunidad.  Visite nuestras Expectativas del Nivel de Grado de grado para colaborar y garantizar que nuestros estudiantes tengan una base educativa sólida.

Nuestras familias nunca están solas en la educación de sus hijos.  Nuestro distrito y nuestros socios comunitarios tienen mucho que ofrecer.  No puedo animarte lo suficiente para que aproveches todo lo que está disponible.  Después de clases y durante todo el fin de semana, se llevan a cabo programas en nuestros edificios escolares y en nuestra comunidad que se suman a lo que se les enseña a nuestros estudiantes durante el día escolar tradicional.

Espero continuar mi conexión con nuestros estudiantes, educadores, familias y miembros de la comunidad durante este año escolar.  Las relaciones sólidas son esenciales para una base de respeto y colaboración.  No es ningún secreto que enfrentamos una buena cantidad de desafíos en este distrito y tenemos mucho trabajo por hacer este año, pero con relaciones sólidas nunca estaremos solos para enfrentar esos desafíos.  Sólo juntos podemos hacer grandes cosas.  Los aliento a cada uno de ustedes a celebrar las sólidas relaciones que ya han desarrollado con los educadores en sus edificios escolares y en toda nuestra comunidad.  También le insto a reflexionar sobre las relaciones que puede construir o fortalecer para preparar a su hijo y a su familia para el éxito.

Les agradezco de antemano por un maravilloso año escolar.  Estamos en esto juntos.  Espero verte pronto.
