Hispanic Heritage on Display at Balmville School
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, scholars in Ms. Rayford's 4th grade class participated in activities that helped them to understand more about Hispanic Heritage. One of Balmville School's commitments is "to provide culturally responsive social emotional learning that respects and nurtures student identity, and promotes social justice". We value positive social identities and what better way to do it than to celebrate one another. Students were eager to learn about Hispanic Heritage and students of Hispanic descent felt a sense of pride in their culture. Mrs. Tirado, a retired Newburgh teacher, taught the students some dances. Students sampled some desserts, like conchas. Some of Ms. Fonseca's students joined in by wearing shirts to honor their Hispanic cultures. We look forward to more events this school year!
