NFA Announces Students Selected for All-State
The Newburgh Free Academy Main Campus is pleased to announce that two students have been selected to the All State Ensembles and one student has been selected as an alternate. The students will participate in concerts held at the acclaimed Eastman Theatre in Rochester, NY during the annual Winter Conference of the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) to be held from December 1 until December 4, 2016.
Laura Wurster, 12th grade vocalist, has been selected for All State Vocal Jazz Ensemble and has been performing for eight years. She has been involved in chorus, A Cappella Chorus, and Madrigals Select chorus for four years. She represented Newburgh last year in the All State Vocal Jazz Ensemble as well.
Supriya Makam, 11th grade vocalist, has been selected for All State Women’s Chorus and has been performing for eight years. She has been involved in chorus, A Cappella Chorus, and Madrigals Select chorus for four years.
Matthew Nummy, 12th grade vocalist, has been selected as an alternate for the All State Vocal Jazz Ensemble and has been performing for eight years. He has been involved in chorus, A Cappella Chorus, and Madrigals Select chorus for four years.
"We are very proud of these students and their accomplishments," said NFA Main Principal Raul Rodriguez. "The hard work and dedication demanded by their craft is evident. They will be excellent representatives of our music department."
The students join 23 students accepted this year from eight of the 19 districts in Orange County and counties across the state. This is the third year in a row that a student has been accepted from the NFA Main choral program.
