Goldbacks in the News! Heritage Scholars are Featured in the Mid Hudson Times this week!
Check out the Mid Hudson Times this week to see some of our scholars from Heritage Middle School!
Each week, the Mid Hudson Times poses questions to students. This week, the question was: “If you could be friends with anyone from history, who would it be and why?"
Find these students and their responses in the Wednesday, January 31st edition of the Mid Hudson Times!
Jayden Sanchez, 7th grade
“Jose Fernandez. He was a pitcher for the Miami Marlins. I looked up to him as I played baseball and I just looked up to him in general. I like the way he pitches, and the way he played and how he contributed to his community outside of baseball.”
Priya Pierce, 7th grade
“Rosa Parks. Ever since I was in 2nd grade, I did a report on her and since then, she has always inspired me to fight for what I want.”
Amber-lyn Canfield, 8th grade
“Theodore Roosevelt. He seems like a pretty cool guy. He was a pretty good President and I think he helped everyone out of the Great Depression, so I feel like he would be great to have around because he was very resourceful.”
Richard Delahaye, 8th grade
“Martin Luther King, Jr. I think that if he hadn’t done what he had done, with speaking up for African American rights or equality in general, it wouldn’t be like this now - like you guys interviewing me on something positive right now. Basically equality.”
Gia Kissel, 6th grade
“George Washington. He was our first president and helped to end all of these things going on with the wars and just helped us out with a lot of things.”
Dornell Skervin, 6th grade
“I would choose Martin Luther Kind, Jr. He’s a great hero to me. He changed a lot of Black’s lives. He opened up a door for them. If he wasn’t brave, then right now, maybe I wouldn’t be at this school. He stood up for all African Americans to help them have freedom and to be treated equally.”
