NFA Students Participate in On-Site Learning from Beacon to Newburgh!
This fall, students from Mrs. McCurdy's and Mrs. Sileno's English 11 classes traveled around Newburgh to see our city in a new light. After weeks of practicing close reading skills with articles written by city historian, Mary McTamaney, students hit the "river road" and streets of Newburgh for some on-site learning.
Beginning the day in Beacon and catching an early morning ferry, students enjoyed being out on the river and hearing their teachers recite the famous Walt Whitman poem, "Crossing Brooklyn Ferry." Tours of Washington's Headquarters were the highlight of the trip, followed by a picnic on the scenic lawn. The day ended with a visit to the SUNY Orange campus for tours, a presentation by the Admissions office, and time for questions and answers.
This excursion was made possible by funding from The Connect-Kids-to- Parks Field Trip Grant Program (Connect Kids).
