Gardnertown Kicks Off Annual Pennies for Patients Campaign and is Doing it With LOVE!
Pennies for Patients Campaign has been a long standing tradition at Gardnertown Leadership Academy since 2011 and scholars have raised almost $10,000 since then. This year, campaigning starts on February 1st and goes to the 22nd. During this time, every student brings all the spare change available to them. This years goal was set at the kickoff assembly of $1,800! Scholars are super excited and eager to meet their goal. Gardnertown partners with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society each year.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society(LLS) is the world's largest voluntary organization dedicated to funding research for treatments and the cure for blood cancers. They also provide education and services for the patients and their families. Their mission is to ensure access to treatments for all children suffering from these diseases.
Thanks to the funded research from LLS, the survival rate of some blood cancers have tripled and even quadrupled! Back in the 60's the survival rate for the most common forms of childhood Leukemia was 3% today it's approximately 90%. This is why the fundraising efforts of thousands of schools just like Gardnertown Leadership Academy are crucial in someday finding a cure.
