NFA Alumna Gives Back - Comes Back to Teach Technique
Janet Ruggerio, NFA class of 1977, came back to teach students in Ms. Maria Lastowski’s Cosmoetology class and Ms. Danielle Crinieri’s Barbering class about microdermabrasion and physical exfoliation. A licensed Esthetician, Ms. Ruggerio talked to students about various certifications, techniques, aspects of her business, and the value of being a life-long learner.
Ms. Ruggerio spoke about continuing edcuation “to make sure you’re the best you can be,” which she noted is a good thing for future clients of our students, but also for their future business! She mentioned classes, additional trainings, and trainings that accompany working with or owning various equipment. She also spoke about the value of online resources to watch videos as new techniques and pieces of equipment develop.
Ms. Ruggerio emphasized the value of certain textbooks that she still finds herself referring back to – always learning something new as she reviews and teaches others. She also encouraged students to be involved with national Estheticians associations to keep up on new trends and maintain quality certifications.
Ms. Ruggerio’s lesson included everything from intake with a client, preparation, safety and hygiene, best practices, retention of clients, chemistry of products, and sales.
Ms. Ruggerio owns a salon in Beacon and regularly comes back to educate our students. She currently employs one of our cosmetology students from this class.
