Fostertown Students Pay it Forward Donating to Families Affected by Cancer
The students in Mrs. Coffey's 3rd grade class at Fostertown, joined ENL teacher Mrs. Nelson, to participate in the Pay It Forward Project.
Each month the students in Mrs. Coffey's class do good deeds for others, in honor of fallen NYC 9/11 firefighter Paul Gill. The students wrote about their deeds and shared them with their classmates. The project helped raise funds for The Sparrow's Nest, a local organization that makes and delivers meals to hundreds of families in area counties who have been affected by Cancer. The students collected donations from their monthly Pay It Forward's, from t-shirt sales, and through a walk-a-thon that was held on June 3rd at Fostertown.
The students' donations totaled $456, not including their t-shirt sales. Another very generous donation of $500 was donated by George M. Carroll bus company, who has partnered with Mrs. Nelson in this project for years, providing the needed transportation to visit the fundraising organization's facility at the conclusion of the project. The students were able to visit the Sparrow's Nest in June. They received a full tour of the new facility, learned how the organization started, learned how the meals are made and delivered, and made get-well soon and birthday cards for the recipients of the Sparrow's Nest meals.
