Summer Reading | Book Bundles
The Newburgh Enlarged City School District (NECSD) launched an innovative initiative to support summer reading for all students from Pre-K through 12th grade. This initiative, made possible through the MBK/GEAR Up and Learning Loss grants, marks the first time every student in the district has been provided with books to encourage summer reading.
Summer Reading Rollout Details:
-
Grades Pre-K to 5th: Students received reading book bundles and journal guides to engage in independent reading and reflective writing over the summer. The goal is to foster a love for reading and improve literacy skills during the break.
-
Grades 6th to 8th: Students received two (2) reading books and journal guides to also engage independent reading and reflective writing over the summer. To also foster a love for reading and increase literacy skills.
-
Grades 9 to 12: Students were each given a copy of the book "The Rose That Grew From Concrete" by Tupac Shakur, along with a study guide. This selection aims to create a shared reading experience, encouraging collaborative discussions across different school buildings.
This summer reading program not only aims to mitigate learning loss but also to build a strong community of readers within NECSD. By providing these resources, the district ensures that all students have access to enriching materials, promoting continuous learning and academic growth during the summer months.
If for some reason your child did not receive their books, please reach out to your child's building principal to make arrangements to retrieve the summer reading books for your child's grade.
