Balmville Scholars Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month
Students in Ms. Rayford, Mrs. Calman, and Ms. Perilli's classes celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with a variety of engaging activities. Students learned about notable figures of Hispanic descent, focusing on the life and work of Frida Kahlo. To honor her legacy, students created portraits of Kahlo adorned with her signature flowers and wrote informative pieces about her. The learning experience continued with read-alouds in both English and Spanish. Former NECSD teacher Mrs. Tirado taught the students traditional dances, and they enjoyed a tasting of arroz con gandules. After reading "The Perfect Piñata/La Perfecta Piñata," students had the chance to break a piñata for treats. They also participated in an arts and crafts activity, making paper cup piñatas. A special thank you to Mrs. Calman, Mrs. Tirado, Ms. Perilli, Mr. Wallingford, and Ms. Kotich for making this celebration memorable for the students.

Los estudiantes de las clases de la Sra. Rayford, la Sra. Calman y la Sra. Perilli celebraron el Mes de la Herencia Hispana con una variedad de actividades. Aprendieron sobre figuras destacadas de origen hispano, centrándose en la vida y obra de Frida Kahlo. Para honrar su legado, los estudiantes crearon retratos de Kahlo adornados con sus flores características y escribieron piezas informativas sobre ella. La experiencia de aprendizaje continuó con lecturas en inglés y español. La Sra. Tirado, ex maestra de NECSD, enseñó a los estudiantes bailes tradicionales, y disfrutaron de una degustación de arroz con gandules. Después de leer "La Perfecta Piñata/The Perfect Piñata," los estudiantes tuvieron la oportunidad de romper una piñata para recibir dulces. También participaron en una actividad de manualidades, haciendo piñatas con vasos de papel. Un agradecimiento especial a la Sra. Calman, la Sra. Tirado, la Sra. Perilli, Sr. Wallingford y la Sra. Kotich por hacer que esta celebración fuera memorable para los estudiantes.
