Newburgh Enlarged City School District Board of Education Announces Dr. Lisa Buon as Acting Superintendent

Dr. Buon holds an Ed.D in Educational Leadership, S.A.S. Administration and Supervision, M.A. in Developmental and Remedial Reading, and a B.A. in Sociology with a minor in African-American Studies. Her extensive background in education and commitment to student success make her an ideal leader for our district.

In her statement, Dr. Buon shared, "I know firsthand the power and difference that education can make in the lives of our children. In fact, I joined Teach for America to give back to this profession and honor Ms. Charlotte Huey, my high school English teacher, who made a difference in the life of this immigrant foster child from Brooklyn." 

 Dr. Buon continued, "It is truly a blessing to be asked to serve as Acting Superintendent of the community where I live.  I look forward to working collaboratively with students, parents/guardians, staff, and our Board of Education to build a bright future for all of our children. My two main goals are to make sure that our students are safe in our schools and to provide the tools whereby every child will be able to read on or above grade level. I urge everyone to go to www.thereadingleague.org to learn about how children must be taught to read based on evidence aligned practices. I ask our community to work with and support me in implementing a catalyst for change in reading instruction that will positively impact all aspects of our children's education. I promise to hit the ground running and will not stop until every child is enabled to graduate with the skills to be successful in whatever future they choose.”
