GAMS First Grade Puppeteers!
Students in Ms. Kelly Purdy’s first grade class created puppets as part of a recent lesson. Retired teacher, Ms. Karin McCartney worked with the students as they each designed and created their own puppets. Mrs. McCartney then spent time with the class discussing the role of the puppet as an extension of one’s self. Students practiced showing emotions and feelings with their puppets, as well as lending them a voice and giving them a name.
Ms. Purdy purchased a class set of the book The Mitten by Jan Brett, and students will be using their puppets as reading buddies as another method of literacy interaction.
The students were eager to spend time with their new ‘puppet buddies’!
