School Meals Heroes celebrated National School Breakfast Week
Our NECSD School Meals Heroes celebrated National School Breakfast Week during the first week of March. We are so thankful for our School Meals Heroes and all they do every day to greet our students and provide them with a nutritious and delicious meal at the start of each day! Our School Meals Heroes are some of the first people to arrive at our schools each day and often interact with every Goldback, every single day! We are so grateful for their dedication and commitment to providing nutritional meals to our scholars each and every day! As a friendly reminder, the district provides breakfast and lunch for every student at no cost to them, offering additional support to our families.
Launched annually by the School Nutrition Association, National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) celebrates the importance of a nutritious school breakfast in fueling students for success by starting their day with a balanced meal.
The Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) shares that celebration activities during NSBW can raise awareness about the healthy breakfasts served at school, increase student participation, and offer a platform to share successful implementation strategies.
The School Breakfast Program provides millions of children a nutritious morning meal, helping families and ensuring that students have the focus and energy they need to get the most out of their school day. Any public school, nonprofit private school, or residential child care institution can participate in the School Breakfast Program and receive federal funds for each breakfast served. The program is administered at the federal level by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and in each state, it is typically administered through the Department of Education or Agriculture.
