Gidney Avenue Memorial School (GAMS) 5th Graders “Set No Limits” Visiting College Campus
Gidney Avenue Memorial School (GAMS) 5th grade students participated in the school's first early college awareness day. The elementary scholars walked from their elementary school to the neighborhood college campus, beginning their visit with meaningful discussions about post secondary options, focusing on the benefits and pathways to higher education.
Early college awareness is a key step to raising aspirations. This program aims to encourage our scholars to see possibilities in their future and, most importantly, help them begin to understand how to access these opportunities.
In partnership with Mount Saint Mary College (MSMC), led by Student Ambassadors from MSMC, students began to imagine college as a student, taking an in depth tour and asking questions to the college aged students.
This program segued nicely into the Early Career Awareness Program being offered to the entire school as part of the schools Comprehensive School Counseling Program and Early College and Career Awareness Month.
The program was coordinated by GAMS School Counselor, Pattie Lofaro and supported by all GAMS 5th grade teachers and security monitor Ms Juanita Camacho, with special thanks to building Administration, Mr. Rob Glowacki and Ms. Rosalie Pena for supporting the initiative.
