Earth Day at Gardnertown Leadership Academy
Earth Day is celebrated annually on April 22 and this year, Mrs. Monaco's first graders at Gardnertown Leadership Academy took action by reusing different materials, such as empty tissue boxes, toilet paper and paper towel rolls, cardboard boxes, plastic bottles, plastic bags, plastic caps, and even Happy Meal boxes from McDonald's, to design and create robots.
Using STEM objectives, students planned, built, and wrote about robots. Once their robots were complete, they named them and wrote to tell what their robots could do and could be used for.
While Mrs. Monaco's class was busy building robots, Mrs. Lewis' Pre-K class down the hall was busy learning all about our earth and how to be earth helpers by reusing items and recycling. It was the perfect time to join together to share our learning and our robots. The Pre-K students enjoyed the visit from the first graders who shared their robots and their written reports. What a great time we had!
