Important Letter from Dr. Roberto Padilla, Superintendent of Schools & NECSD Teachers.

Dear NECSD Community,
As leaders, it is important for us to create avenues for students to use their voices as advocates who work for positive social and systemic change. We believe that young people of all ages in Newburgh deserve invitations to be civically engaged and to peacefully advocate for themselves and their communities. March 14th is an opportune moment for educators and students to stand in solidarity for an issue that impacts us all. If we act proactively and plan for safe, organized activities in our NECSD schools, we can ensure that students feel valued and validated in their responses to the recent tragedies and subsequent concerns on school safety.
We support scholars who wish to use their voice in positive ways. On March 14th, Newburgh Schools will coordinate activities that honor the 17 individuals who lost their lives in Parkland, Florida. These activities will range from wearing orange, planting flowers, and/or observed moments of silence. We encourage you to speak with your child(ren) about what is occurring around the country.
If your child has expressed an interest in participating in any of these pre-determined activities, please reach out to their building Principal as they are being scheduled.
This past Tuesday, March 6th 2018 I held a School Safety Town Hall Meeting in order to give scholars and fellow parents an opportunity for their voices to be heard and for their concerns to be addressed, without any disruption to the regular school day and instructional time.

Estimada comunidad de NECSD,
Como líderes, es importante para nosotros crear vías para que los estudiantes utilicen sus voces como defensores que trabajan por un cambio social y sistémico positivo. Creemos que los jóvenes de todas las edades en Newburgh merecen invitaciones para ser cívicamente comprometidos y abogar pacíficamente por ellos mismos y sus comunidades. El 14 de marzo es un momento oportuno para que los educadores y estudiantes se solidaricen con un tema que nos impacta a todos. Si actuamos de manera proactiva y planificamos actividades seguras y organizadas en nuestras escuelas de NECSD, podemos asegurar que los estudiantes se sientan valorados y validados en sus respuestas a las tragedias recientes y las preocupaciones posteriores sobre la seguridad escolar.
Apoyamos a los estudiosos que desean usar su voz de manera positiva. El 14 de marzo, las escuelas de Newburgh coordinarán actividades que honrarán a las 17 personas que perdieron la vida en Parkland, Florida. Estas actividades van desde usar el color naranja, plantar flores y/u observar momentos de silencio. Le recomendamos que hable con su hijo(s) sobre lo que está ocurriendo en todo el país.
Si su hijo ha expresado interés en participar en cualquiera de estas actividades predeterminadas, comuníquese con el director de la escuela a medida que se programen.
El pasado martes, 6 de marzo de 2018, realicé una reunión del ayuntamiento de seguridad escolar para brindarles a los estudiantes y padres la oportunidad de escuchar sus voces y atender sus inquietudes, sin interrupción del día escolar regular y el tiempo de instrucción.
