Horizons on the Hudson Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with Music, Dance, and Pride
Horizons on the Hudson was alive with music, dancing, and learning as our Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations culminated in a lively school-wide assembly. The Library Troupe played an integral role in our events. They visited classrooms to deliver and collect beautifully colored flags representing the many countries connected to our scholars and their families. Students in Grades Pre-K through 5 explored the extraordinary lives and musical legacies of Celia Cruz, the Queen of Salsa, and Tito Puente, the King of Latin Music. Bravo to Elena S., Emma T., and Naomi V. for their radiant portrayal of Celia, and to Justice C., Lorenz J., and Vincen R. for their spirited performance as Tito. Special recognition also goes to our talented emcees, Jeanette A., Kah’nyi W., Kamila S., Mariam A., Shaddai S., and Vincen R. for leading the program with such poise, confidence, and enthusiasm.
The Library Troupe also embraced the joy of dance, learning Salsa under the guidance of Mrs. Bajana, 2nd Grade Teacher and HOH’s resident Zumba instructor. Together, Mrs. Bajana, the Troupe, and members of the faculty and staff led the entire school in singing and dancing to “I Love Salsa” by N’Klabe (2005). This was a joyful celebration that truly captured the spirit of the day.
A special thanks to members of the Library Troupe, Mrs. Galarza, Social Worker, Mrs. Bajana, 2nd grade teacher, Dr. Kauth, Music Teacher, Mr. Leo and Mr. Spencer, custodians, Mrs. Adorno and Mrs. Castro, Teaching Assistants, Mrs. Ortiz and Mrs. Suazo-Gordon ENL Teachers, Mrs. Boughton, School Psychologist, Mrs. Prado, Spanish Teacher, Mrs. Marshall and Mrs. Reid, our Principal and Assistant Principal, and Mrs. Rivers, Library Intern for their support.
