NECSD Distributes 100 Turkeys and Sides to Families in Need
Our Newburgh Free Academy high school students teamed up with community members this week to distribute a Thanksgiving giveaway filled with seasonal foods and fresh vegetables.
Over 100 Turkeys were distributed in addition to the seasonal foods and fresh vegetables.
The food items were provided through our Family and Community Engagement Pop-up School Pantry, in partnership with the Regional Foodbank of the Hudson Valley, and the Children’s Food Programs department.
Reusable bags donated by HealthFirst and 100 bags of Fresh Produce donated by Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital.
YAP/SNUG supported the event by helping with distribution and providing additional turkeys and seasonal sides.
Working side by side, volunteers sorted donations, assembled bags, and made sure every bag included holiday staples like squash, potatoes, stuffing ingredients, and other festive favorites. The students took pride in contributing their time and energy, learning the importance of service and seeing firsthand how teamwork can make a meaningful difference.
When selected families arrived to pick up their Thanksgiving items, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Students from our NFA AF-JROTC and My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) members greeted neighbors, helped carry bags, and shared in the spirit of giving that defines the season.
For many, the event was more than a food distribution. It was a chance to connect, support one another, and ensure that everyone in the community could enjoy a hearty holiday meal. The collaboration between students and community volunteers highlighted the power of coming together to spread kindness and gratitude.
Joining in the distribution were Superintendent, Dr. Jackie Manning Campbell, Board of Education President, Mr. John Doerre, and Assistant Superintendent for Student Support Services, Dr. Natasha Freeman Mack.
