New Windsor School Hosts Gold Card Event with Ravensbeard Wildlife Sanctuary
New Windsor School celebrated its first-trimester Gold Card Event, recognizing students who demonstrated the school’s expectations to Be Responsible, Respectful, Ready, and Safe. Students in grades K–5 enjoyed a special educational program focused on bird rehabilitation and met several incredible owls from Ravensbeard Wildlife Sanctuary.
Ellen Kalish, director of Ravensbeard Wildlife Sanctuary, taught students about owls and shared the unique stories behind each bird. She also generously donated a copy of The Christmas Owl: Based on the True Story of a Little Owl Named Rockefeller to the school library. Students were especially excited to meet Rocky, the little owl who was famously discovered in the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree several years ago.
Gold Card Events are part of New Windsor School’s Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program and are co-facilitated by school psychologist Kelly Caci, school counselor Jason Michalek, and music teacher Mary Petruncola.
