NFA Musicians Perform in Albany for Music in Our Schools Month
The NFAM Music Department recently performed in Albany in celebration for Music in Our Schools Month. High school musicians from the NFA Main Robert D. Williams Tenor Bass Chorus, Select Chamber Strings, Percussion Ensemble, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble and School of Rock traveled to Albany, NY to perform at the Empire State Plaza in celebration of Music in Our Schools Month. This event was sponsored by NYSSMA. This trip has been a yearly tradition for the NFA Main Music Department and the students and teachers look forward to it every year.
To be a part of this celebration, music teachers throughout New York State submit applications for their groups to perform. The purpose of these special performances is to raise awareness of the importance of music education for all students. Music in Our Schools Month reminds political officials, school administrators and all citizens that school is where all children must have access to a quality education that includes music.
At the conclusion of their performances, the ensembles were presented with an honorary plaque in recognition of their stellar performances and the students received a special NYSSMA pin for their participation. After the awards ceremony, the students and their chaperones enjoyed touring the New York State Museum. A portion of the transportation costs were covered by the Connect Kids Grant.
The NFA Main Music Department thanks the parents and administration for their continued support of our music programs. We look forward to returning next year!
