Fostertown Dedicates Day to Literacy with local Author and Tournament of Books
Students at Fostertown Elementary were treated to a day dedicated to literacy. In the morning, award-winning author and illustrator Bryan Collier spoke to students, encouraging them to recognize their own creativity while sharing his personal journey of perseverance and patience. His message of hope and resilience left a lasting impression and is one that students will carry with them for years to come. Mr. Collier also graciously personalized and autographed each book purchased that day, making the experience even more memorable.
That afternoon, students and faculty participated in our annual Tournament of Books, inspired by March Madness. Teachers selected books to read anonymously, and every other day, students voted on their favorites. At the end of the tournament, a lively rally was held where the teachers were revealed and the book “battles” were re-enacted. During the final showdown, the winning book was announced. This exciting event gets scholars energized about reading and fosters a strong sense of community around books.
