Vails Gate STEAM Academy STEAM Night
Vails Gate was buzzing with excitement as students and families came together for this year's Spring STEAM Night! The event provided hands-on opportunities for children to explore science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics through a variety of engaging activities.
One of the most popular stations challenged students to understand the chemical reaction that happens with baking soda combined with vinegar resulting in us being able to shoot off rocket soda bottles. Young engineers had the rockets soaring.
At the shipbuilding station, students constructed boats and then put their designs to the test. Using a variety of materials, they created vessels that could hold increasing amounts of weight without sinking.
The artistic side of STEAM shined through the homemade suncatcher activity. Students used colorful materials from nature to create unique designs that will brighten windows and remind them of a fun evening of learning and creativity.
Another favorite activity was making bubble wands from pipe cleaners. Children twisted and shaped their own bubble makers, then experimented to see how different designs created bubbles of various sizes and shapes. This simple activity encouraged both creativity and scientific observation.
Students also had the opportunity to design and build their own kites using construction paper, straws, string, and tape. As they assembled their creations, they explored basic engineering concepts such as balance, structure, and stability. Students enjoyed creating successful flying craft on the breeze night.
Throughout the evening, students explored, collaborated, and discovered new ways to think like scientists, engineers, artists, and innovators. Thank you to our staff volunteers and families for making Spring STEAM Night at Vails Gate such a memorable and inspiring event.
