Newburgh Preservation Association Highlights NFA Artists and Newburgh Landmarks
The Newburgh Preservation Association hosted a photography exhibit that showcased the talents of NFA’s student photographers as well as the City of Newburgh’s rich architectural and landscape heritage, creating a treasure hunt throughout the community for exhibit visitors. All Newburgh Free Academy students were invited to submit photos for this exhibit, sponsored by the Newburgh Preservation Association (NPA) whose mission is to promote the preservation of Newburgh’s architectural and landscape heritage.
Too often we focus on Newburgh’s grittiness, but Newburgh’s built and natural environment is filled with beauty. The NPA hopes students will discover and explore this beauty so that they will appreciate and promote the city’s extraordinary architectural and landscape heritage and teach exhibit visitors to join them in this mission.
Students submitted a color or black & white photo. Each photo included an identifiable example of Newburgh’s architectural and/or landscape heritage. The collection of photos were labeled with a sticker to indicate the municipality it was taken. Each exhibit visitor was challenged with guessing the exact location.
During the reception, students received framed certificates of participation and showed off their photos. One student sold two photos on the spot!
A special thanks to Ms. Nina D’Alfonso, Mrs. Ginny McCurdy, Ms. Geri Romano, teachers from Newburgh Free Academy's West and Main campuses for coordinating student submissions. Thank you to Mrs. Mary Elin Korchinsky Carnes, retired teacher from Newburgh Free Academy and member of Newburgh Preservation Association, Mrs. Rebecca Brown, member, and Ms. Alison Capella, President of the Newburgh Preservation Association for coordinating the event.
The exhibit will be on display from June 1 to June 28, 2018 at 2 Alices Coffee Lounge, Newburgh.
