NFA West Campus Welcomes Incoming 9th Grade Scholars
Incoming 9th grade scholars participated in a week-long summer bridge program at Newburgh Free Academy’s West Campus. Activities included academic and behavioral expectations, team building activities, tours of the building, approaches to academic and scheduling, technology, social media, and DASA expectations, and clubs and activities. Parents and family members were invited to a portion of the orientation to learn along with their scholars.
Scholars also participated in a series of team building events that were also academic in nature. Teams were charged with designing a container to protect an egg from breaking from a 15-foot drop, building cars out of food materials that were able to travel down a ramp, and making signs and discuss global movements to name a few.
Current NFA West scholars were on hand to help facilitate the activities and to begin building relationships with their new high school peers.
NFA West is a Big Picture Learning school. As Big Picture Learning moves forward, we recognize the need to be agile. The need to face the challenges of everyday life, whether they be in education or the world at large. We lead with a definition of personalization that starts with ‘person.' We adhere to a philosophy in which meeting the educational needs of a nation can be accomplished one student at a time. But BPL’s new approaches, new drives and – yes – new successes suggest that we can also approach these challenges one school at a time; one community at a time; one paradigm shift at a time.
