Every NECSD Employee Celebrates Welcome Back Convocation
Every employee in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District was invited to a welcoming convocation. Dr. Padilla, our Board of Education President, Ms. Carole Mineo, our three union leaders, and our interim Executive Director of Technology addressed the audience.
The district also welcomed keynote speaker, Jaime Casap, Education Evangelist at Google. Jaime evangelizes the power and potential of technology and the web as enabling and supporting tools in pursuit of inquiry-based learning models. Jaime collaborates with school systems, educational organizations, and leaders around the world focused on building innovation into our education policies and practices. He speaks on education, technology, innovation, and generation z, at events around the world. You can follow and reach him on Twitter at @jcasap
In his keynote address, Jaime Casap encouraged our NECSD community to refrain from asking our scholars: “what do you want to be when you grow up” and instead, encouraged the question of: “what problem do you want to solve.” Mr. Casap spoke about the evolution of technology and the impactful ways students use technology today. He also related technology to driving a car when he posed the scenario of students knowing how to drive a car, just because they’ve grown up riding in cars. From that analogy, Mr. Casap encouraged our educators to teach students how to properly use technology, as they don’t know how to use technology well just because they grew up around it, similar to how they don’t automatically know how to drive a car.
Our welcome convocation celebrated our unity as a district and focused on the inspirational role our teachers play for countless scholars every single day. We continue our excitement as the first few weeks of school continue and look forward to another successful year! #WeAreOneNECSD#GoldbackStandard
