The GEAR UP Spotlight features highlights and insight on the opportunities our 9th grade scholars are fortunate to experience each month.

The Newburgh Free Academy Boys Basketball team is headed to Section Finals. The game will take place on Saturday, March 8th at 10am at Monroe-Woodbury high school.

Student representatives from across the district gathered together to deliver excerpts from their school's Black History Month celebrations for the Board of Education at a regular meeting.

The event featured between ten and thirteen short speeches about topics impacting our city's past and present, ranging from the Battle of Newburgh to gentrification and street art.

Students performed for families and their peers in an informative and celebratory event. Student presentations included speeches about influential Black figures throughout history, songs, and dances.

Declan Welling and Victor Martinez are future filmmakers in NFA's Award Winning Video Production Program. They have created this short documentary about the Concept Vehicle Race (CVR) Team.

Nominations were made for students in each of the following areas; Athletics, Citizenship, Creative Arts, Diversity, English Language Arts, Foreign Languages, Mathematics, Perseverance/Effort, Science, and Technology.

It was an exciting day where students met people who talked about nursing, swallowing, property management, coding, information technology, corrections, martial arts, law enforcement, equity, nursing, firefighting, and college life & choices.

Families engaged in a meaningful step-by-step process to bring to life Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s powerful quote: "I know love is ultimately the only answer to mankind's problems."

The NFA Book Club will be reading Heartless Hunter by Kristen Ciccarelli for their March selection. Discussion for this book will take place on April 3, 2025.

The NFA Unified Bowling team took home the Section IX Championship title for the second year in a row. The team also took home the title for the 2023-2024 Winter Season.

NFA Boys Indoor Track & Field finished first, second, and third in a series of events at the State Qualifiers over the weekend.

NFA’s Will Soto Wins Wrestling State Championship title for second consecutive year, reigning champ Cooper Merli places second, and NFA’s Wrestling team placed 3rd overall in the state meet held at the MVP Arena in Albany over the weekend.

The Empire State Extended Day (After-School & Saturdays) Program offers enrichment and academic opportunities for middle and high school scholars in an extended day setting within the Newburgh Enlarged City School District.
