Former NFA Basketball Player, Jakwan Jones, is now playing for the World Famous Harlem Globetrotters. At NFA Jakwan was called “Slinky”, a nickname his close friend, Jabari Wells, gave him when they were kids.

NFA Black History Club Scholars Spread Holiday Cheer at Local Hospital
Newburgh Free Academy's Black History Club collaborated with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital on Christmas Eve to distribute toys and good cheer to the patients and staff.

Andy Pagana is a 1993 graduate of Newburgh Free Academy. He wrote a very catchy Christmas song called “Dear Mr. Santa Clause.” Ms. Coopersmith, and some of her students at Heritage Middle School love the song and learned all of the lyrics to it.

On Friday December 20, 2019, Heritage Middle School scholar Chelsea and her mom taught Ms. Coopersmith’s class, about Hanukkah and why it is celebrated. Each student made a Dreidel using a marshmallow, a pretzel stick, icing and a Hershey’s Kiss.

Back to Back State Champion Ryler Gould Signs National Letter of Intent to Run for University of Miami
Ryler Gould, 2018 and 2019 New York State Champion in the 400m hurdles signed his National Letter of Intent to run for Miami University. Ryler received a full scholarship, totaling more than $76,500 per year.

Beanie Boren, a science wiz who is not keen on reading, has designed a book reading machine for the science fair. It combines a computer, a video camera, and a contraption of his own design to enable one to read three books at once.
